SCOUTING
When scouting high draft picks you always want to check if they are injury prone. You don't want some one who will be missing games often. Consistent players will help bring consistent wins.
Check compatibility for your scheme, and required skill set for the position. This will also allow for your coach to perform better by improving the talent brought in.
Scout players from all rounds, there are always jewels in later rounds. You could get decent talent with 4th round picks, and play that youth at a different position in which they will do more damage to opposing teams.
After drafting the first thing you want to do is go to the free agency market and look up undrafted rookies. This is a great way to pick up talent for cheap and without wasting draft picks.
Be smart when trading up, especially in the first round. Constantly trading up for first rounders is a common mistake. It wont guarantee them all to be stars nor a successful team. It will damage your cap salary in the long run.
When you know ahead that you wont want to draft a player in a certain round, use that pick to trade up(only if its really worth it) or trade the pick away for future draft picks prior to draft day. Have in mind creating future opportunity's for your franchise.
